PLANT SALE – SATURDAY 18 MAY 2024
Celebrating its return to St. Leonard’s Hall after a seven year break, this year’s Plant Sale on Saturday 18 May was a total triumph. A queue began forming at 1.15pm and by two o’clock it stretched down the length of Glebe Villas. Familiar faces were spotted near the front of the queue as well as some “newbies” and a few four-legged friends. As soon as the doors opened punters rushed to snap up bargains, often leaving their initial purchases at the plant crèche while returning to the stalls to buy more. Pat E’s enormous, spectacular variegated Pelargoniums were spotted being snapped up straight away, as were any plants in full bloom.
Leila, Sheila and Mandy served happy customers (especially kids!) with the most delicious cakes, biscuits and slices of Jacky’s famous cheesy potato pie. Yum!
As a result of such a successful event, just over an amazing £2,000! was raised for Club funds, enabling us to cover running costs for the next twelve months and to book some excellent speakers for our Meetings. Special thanks are due to all the Committee (particularly Marion), our intrepid group of helpers and everyone who donated plants, baked goods and bric-a-brac for the stalls. Well done, and see you at the same time next year!
